THE PROJECT

The Monterosa Residence renovation project aims to transform a historic building into a contemporary and functional space, suited to current needs while maintaining a strong commitment to preserving the architectural elements that contribute to its heritage value.

This building is in the heart of Funchal, on one of the main pedestrian streets, offering the advantage of a quite space within the city. The benefit of this medium-sized development is that it provides future residents with a very calm and relaxing living experience, featuring luxurious and discreet common areas.

The façade, featuring characteristic elements of the modernist era, will be preserved. The rehabilitation, recovery, and restoration of the building will prioritize ensuring its regional identity and integration within the protected area of the Palácio de Ornelas. The architectural integrity of the building will be safeguarded, with the façade continuing to be defined by the distribution of smooth surfaces contrasted with open areas protected by shutters, the use of traditional colors on exterior surfaces, and the application of locally sourced stone cladding on certain ground-floor surfaces and the portico columns. All fundamental exterior architectural features of the local style will be preserved through careful restoration and recovery.

The finishes follow a luxury standard, compatible with the location and the target audience for this exclusive development. All the existing coating materials, such as the marbles in the entrance hall, corridors and staircases as well as the iron and wood railings, and exterior tiles on balconies are reminiscent of the original vintage design and will be preserved as much as possible. The walnut panels for the wainscoting of the stairs and common areas will be replaced with a design very similar to the original.

All new materials for the interior of the apartments are of excellent quality, such as sucupira wood floors, Italian walnut wood panels in selected walls, walnut finish wood doors and modern iroko wood windows that guaranty durability and optimal thermal and sound insulation, creating and elegant yet modern and serene ambience.

An Italian kitchen designed by Molteni & C open to the living space will be equipped with high-end appliances from prestigious European brands.

All bathrooms have been designed to be unique and different for each apartment. A blend of porcelain and tiles as well as fixtures and cabinets from Italian prestigious designers create an inviting and pleasant atmosphere with distinctive character.

A new swimming pool with a deck and garden will be built, providing a leisure space for future residents. Additionally, the building will feature a fully equipped gym area and communal spaces for residents, with access to the roof top offering panoramic views of the city.

Every space has been meticulously designed with careful attention to detail, creating a harmonious environment that takes residents of this luxury development on a captivating journey for the senses.
